Welcome to ‘Frank’s Challenge 2014′ blog!
After the great success of my epic ride for my 60th in 2012, from John O’Groats in Scotland to Land’s End in Cornwall, when you helped me reach a total sponsorship of over £3,500 for The Dystonia Society, the challenge I have set for myself this year is from Kent to Cornwall, along the south coast of England, travelling on a mountain bike and using as many off-road tracks and paths as possible. Distance is around 350 miles, starting in Tenterden in Kent and finishing in St.Ives, the pretty seaside town on the north coast of Cornwall. I have planned 9 days for the route, so please read ‘The Route’ page to check out where I might be at any given time. I do not have any sponsorship in place this year so this is purely a personal challenge.
I am still looking for people to come join me for some of this trip, so if you might like to join me for a day or more of the ride, please contact me! Pace will not be fast – average of under 10mph will be the norm as I am riding a mountain bike with a front box and carrying a rucksack myself. Daily distance will be around 40 miles. Some days have a total climbing of over 1,500 metres (5,000ft) which means although short on mileage, are not going to be easy going!
